Learning to read is such an exciting time for kids. First, they learn that each letter makes a sound (sometimes more than one) then they have to learn that we can blend those letter sounds together. Not too hard yet right? Then come pesky digraphs.....when two letters make only one sound like ph, ch, sh, kn, wh, and so on. Some kids find Digraphs so tricky!
If you've followed me long you know that I like to make learning as fun as possible. So of course I turned digraphs into fun and easy games and activities!
Passages Filled with the Focus Digraph
After students have been introduced to a digraph it is important that they have authentic reading experiences where they are exposed to the digraph within a text. I have written short, simple, decodable passages filled with the focus digraph for students to practice! As a bonus, each passage comes with a short page of comprehension questions because why practice only one reading skill? These passages are perfect for small-group instruction!
I have created a passage, questions, and game set for each digraph. You can purchase them separately or as a bundle!
Roll and Read Digraph Games
Like I said above, I love to make learning as fun as possible. After whole group and small group, your students are probably still going to need more practice and exposure to their new digraph. Or maybe you want to review one that several students are having trouble with. Pair those sweet kiddos up, pass out some dice, and let the games begin! Most of the words in each game match up with words they were previously exposed to in the passages above.
