I have had so many students of all different ages throughout the years confuse the lowercase letters b and d. These are some of my favorite B and D reversal intervention activities, games, and resources!
First, if you're struggling with HOW to teach students the difference check out Anna at The Measured Mom's post about different ways to explicitly teach students the differences between the two letters. Her post was super helpful to me in the past!
Intervention Activites
Like with most things, practice makes progress so I also like to use these fun activities and games during my interventions with students.
Roll and Read Games: These are perfect for partner times or centers!
Connect Four Game:
Who doesn't love a good old game of connect four especially when it helps fix b & d reversals? Partner up your students, pass out some crayons let the fun begin!
Word Sorts: Students love cutting and pasting while they practice distinguishing between the beginning sounds of each picture.
Listen and Add a Letter: I love sticking this activity in a clear leave or laminating it. Let students use dry-erase markers as they identify and write each d and b.
Maze Game: This is another one that I suggest laminating and having students use dry-erase markers with. I like to time students and watch them get faster and faster as their automaticity strengthens!
Desk Cards:
I have found placing a simple small visual queue card on students' desks, or having them keep it somewhere where they can grab it quickly is also helpful.
